For those of you that didn't get a chance to know my Grammy, let me tell you about her. She was an awesome person and an even better grandma. She wanted to help everyone, her goal in life was to please others! She was very selfless. She loved buying presents for everyone, no holiday needed! She had a heart of an angel...and two years ago today, she got her wings.
This was a day that we all new would come, since she was fighting the battle of her life. She was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in February of 2005. She lived 18 months with this disease. She fought hard. We knew that this day would come. On one hand, we welcomed it. She was in so much pain! We didn't want her to hurt anymore. On the other hand, we dreaded it. How could we live without someone that was so special to us. Such an important part in our lives! Well, it's been two years, and let me tell ya...we're doing it. We are continuing with our lives, just as she would have wanted. This doesn't happen without hard days. Days when we WISH that she could be here to experience these special things with us. Days like when my boys were born! You may not know this but she had twin boys too...my uncles, whose birthdays ironically are today as well. I am lucky enough to have "Felt" her there at the birth of the boys. Dream or no dream, I saw her there while I was in recovery, with a HUGE smile on her face, hands on her cheeks, doing her famous "OHHHHHH" expression. She was pleased, happy! I was happy too. There are other times when I wish she was here...times that aren't so special...like when I'm quietly feeding the boys...I think of her. Or when I'm driving in my car...she constantly pops into my head. She truly was an awesome Grammy. I'll leave you with one last memory! Matt & Kevin have Grammy to thank for our shopping habits! We used to go shopping all the time with grandma. She always had credit cards to her loved stores, Montgomery Wards, Bullocks, Broadway, Mervyns, JCPenny...after she'd sign her name at the bottom of the receipt, Dana and I would take turns and she'd let us sign our name! We were under 10 years old. It was probably a time consuming, unimportant thing for the poor woman working as cashier. But to us, it was done with complete joy and importance as we carefully, slowly wrote our name under hers! That is just one example of her love for us! I do miss her dearly. I am grateful for the time that we had with her. The experience that we had and the memories that we cherish!
Here are some pictures for you to enjoy. I must warn you...at the end of the slide show, the pictures are somewhat disturbing. They don't look like her. They look like a sick, frail woman. This is when the cancer got the best of her. But in the middle of the slideshow...those are the pictures that I hold dear to my heart! ESPECIALLY the one of her in the fuchsia dress with Tom Vetter. THAT IS MY FAVORITE PICTURE OF HER! Luckily that is what I remember her as when I think of her...not that frail, sick person! So here's to my Gram! Enjoy!
