Thanksgiving 2010

We spent our Thanksgiving with Matt's family this year.  The day was spent chatting, cooking, watching football, snacking, snoozing (the boys took LONG naps), and visiting.  There were 26 adults and 4 kids gathered at the table.  Here are some pictures from our day!

Around the House

Just thought I would show you all some of my Thanksgiving decorations that I made this year.  I got all the ideas online at some of my favorite crafty blogs.  Dana prepped this cute little turkey, I just glued it together!

 This was a free printable that I mod-podged onto a wood board.  I think it's so cute.

 My mom gave me this idea (that she saw on a blog).  Dollar store vases and candles...filled with beans.

 Of course, I had to display Lil' Miss Crafty's school crafts.

 I made this subway art from our Silhouette vinyl cutter.  I love me some subway art.

Not too much Thanksgiving decor, just a bit sprinkled through our house!  So, what do you think?

Thanksgiving Feast!

Mackenzi celebrated Thanksgiving at her school today.  Her class, along with the other four pre-kinder classes, dressed as pilgrims and Native Americans.  They marched in a parade, feasted on some yummy food, prayed, sang Thanksgiving songs, listened to their teachers read Thanksgiving books, and listened to turkey stories.

 They all looked so cute!

 They feasted on bananas, Native American bread, popcorn, fruit, and sliced turkey.

 She loved singing with her friends.

We are very thankful for her teachers, Mrs. Airth and Mrs. Knight.  Mackenzi really loves them.

 All of the pre-k students stamped their hand prints to create the turkey feathers on this big, fat turkey.  So adorable!

Stylin'

A while back I found a skirt and leggings that I thought would be cute for Mackenzi to wear for Thanksgiving.  I hadn't found a shirt and didn't really know what I wanted to put with it.  Today, the boys and I ran a few errands while Mackenzi was at school.  I bought a plain grey shirt and some tulle. Tonight, I worked on it.

 I haven't permanently fastened the tulle flower onto the shirt yet because I need to make sure the shirt fits her first!  But I think it turned out pretty cute.  Now all that girl needs are some new ballet flats & she'll be styling!

A Girly Space!

When we moved into our new house last spring, I bought a few new things for our house.  New throw pillows to change it up, new bedding for our bedroom, new bathroom decor for the kids bathroom. Mackenzi was dying to get a "new room" too.  After months of putting it together, she finally has a new room.  She love, love, loves it!  She loves to look through magazines that come in the mail (just like her mama) and found a room in Pottery Barn Kids that she loved...the butterfly room.  I'm not a big fan of butterflies, but it's not my room.  So, because she fell in love with it, that's what she got, a butterfly room..  Since Pottery Barn is a bit pricey...we tried to use that as inspiration for her room.  My mom got her bedding, made her curtains, and made her (PB inspired) netting above her bed.  While we were in the Bahamas for my birthday, Rick (Matt's dad) surprised me and painted her room, put up her faux bead-board wallpaper, and her chair rail molding.  I think her room looks awesome.  But more importantly, she loves it to pieces!!

 I had this lamp from her old room and re-did the shade with silk flowers (another PB inspiration).  I think it came out great!  The PB lampshade was $100....I bought flowers for $8 and hot glued those puppies on. $8.00 vs. $100....yep, that's much better!

 Hanging from the center are these crystals.  My mom saved them from my wedding.  They were in my bouquet, she knew they'd come in handy one day!! 

 I wanted a space for her to hang her artwork and crafts, since she's constantly creating something that she wants to tape to her walls....um...no!  So now she has her own space to hang her work!

 Her shelves on her hutch are a constant mess because she is a pack-rat.  She throws things up there that she wants to hide from her brothers.  I was going to clean it up for the picture, but I thought I would go with the 'real' look of it instead.  I just made these bow holders for her too (well, I painted them).  Now we have room for (most) of our bows!

Since we have a toy room, most of her toys are in there.  She has books, dress up jewels, a few babies, and her piano in her room.  The rest of the toys are crammed into the toy room!  This keeps her room a bit cleaner on a day to day basis! 
A huge thank you to my mom and Rick for the help in her room.  We all love it!!!

The Dinosaurs are Coming!!

Hurry, hurry...hide!!!

 Just a couple of months shy of 3 years old, these two boys of mine have really had their imaginations kick into high gear.  Jace and Quinn L.O.V.E. to play this dinosaur game over and over (and over) again.  They're constantly running through the house  hiding from dinosaurs.  They used to love to play this hiding game downstairs, under the table or behind the couch cushions.  But lately, this is how I find them.  Pillows on our beds thrown on to the floor.  Freshly made beds are torn apart and they are hiding under the covers, hiding from dinosaurs.

 Most of the time there is also a volcano they are screaming about or a big storm coming. 
They sure have fun playing this game together.  Can't you tell?

 While I'm glad that their imagination is growing and they are having a great time...the bed-making situation is getting pretty tiresome.  But, then again...look at those faces!!  They can hide from all the dinosaurs they want.

Giving Thanks...

I'm a summer girl at heart.  I love the sun, the beach, swimming, and the lake.  I love boating, sprinklers, barbecues, and no school.  But, every time Fall comes around, I really, really enjoy it.  I love the holidays, the family gatherings, the decorations that fill my house.  Especially in November, I love the fact that I am constantly thinking of things that I'm thankful for.  It makes me realize that all year long I need to see just how lucky I am.  There are so many things to be thankful for.  We had so many changes this year, and I'm grateful for them all.  I absolutely love my life, my family, my house, and my role as a Mommy.  I am truly blessed.

Speaking of life as a mommy...I can NOT believe that my kids are getting so big.  Oh.My.Stars!  I was just looking through old pictures and found these two from their first Thanksgivings....

Oh, those chubby babies of ours...I just love them.

My Smart Cookie!

Last week, while I was vacuuming, Mackenzi was drawing on some paper while she and the boys were watching Tinkerbell.  I heard her sounding out -t-i-n-k-e-r-b-e-l-l....then she asked me, "mommy, is this how you spell Tinkerbell?"

Looks pretty darn good to me!  Keep in mind, she's not starting Kindergarten until NEXT year!!  Miss Mackenzi is one smart cookie!!!

Froggy the Classroom Friend

Mackenzi's preschool class has a special class friend named Froggy.  Each child gets to bring Froggy home in his special backpack.  His backpack is filled with books about him.  When I picked Mackenzi up from school on Friday we got some exciting news...it was her turn to take care of Froggy for the weekend!  She was SO excited.  Before we take him back tomorrow we had a little homework to complete...draw a picture of what we did and have Mommy write about it ask Mackenzi dictates.  She had so much fun with her friend Froggy. Here's some pictures of what they did this weekend!!
