Dancing her Heart Out!

Saturday night was Mackenzi's dance recital.  She was super excited.  You might remember from last year that she hammed it up...big time.  This year she was talking big, but once it was showtime she was a bit shy.  She still danced her heart out, but she lacked the jazzy facial expressions this year.  It was adorable.  Every dance that those girls did was super cute and jazzy.    Here are a few of my favorite pictures.  My niece Kelsea is in her dance class too, so for the first number "These Boots are Made for Walkin'", they were standing next to each other.
This was the face she did most of the night, a few times (especially in this song)  her true colors showed through.  Once she realized she was havin' so much fun, she stopped smiling and made this face again.

The next number was "Holiday" by Madonna.  I  don't think she smiled once during this song, but she danced perfectly!!!  She said she had so much fun (even though she felt "excited and shy").  Aren't their costumes just adorable?!

We were so proud of her.  We surprised her with sunflowers.  She was thrilled to receive flowers from Uncle Jeff & Auntie Kara, Kelsea, and Nana too.  She has a huge bouquet in her room.

 The best dancers ever!!
We love you Mackenzi!!  You did such a good job, you were born to dance!!

Big Bear in the Spring

Last Saturday afternoon, we loaded up the car Clark Griswold style and headed to Big Bear.  We had to drop off the kids with Wendy first.  They were taking them to Palm Springs for the night and we had to meet them in Redlands.  So for 30 minutes, we were packed in our car like sardines.  4 adults, one dog, 4 pillows, 4 sleeping bags, a tent, three bags, food, and ice chest, 4 blankets, 3 kid sleeping bags, and who knows what else jammed into our Escalade.  Yes, that's my foot on top of the car seats because there was so room for it on the floor.  Once the kids were gone, we were able to spread out a bit.
The weather in Big Bear was beautiful Saturday afternoon, the sky was blue, the sun was warm, and the breeze was cool.  We were camping with our friend's Derick and Monique to celebrate his 30th birthday.  We set up our tent and headed to the lake for some fishing.
The scenery was beautiful, since the kids weren't there to pose, I had to take pictures of Hurley!  It was too beautiful to pass up.

We hung out by the fire and had s'mores before calling it a night.  While we were sleeping, a storm rolled in.  After sleeping on the ground (I'm so not down with roughin' it) for the coldest night of my life, we woke up to windy, cold, and drizzling weather.  Matt and I snuck away with Hurley and sat in the car to defrost.  We took a drive to Starbucks and got some yummy warmth to go.  When we got back to the campsite it was SNOWING!  Snow in May while camping in Southern California.  NOT COOL!!!  It wasn't sticking to the ground but it was snowing.  We packed up and headed home.  Even though it was freezing, we really had a great time.  We are so lucky to have amazing friends, we have so much fun hanging out with them!!!
Happy Birthday Derick!!

A Trip to the Rain Forest

On Saturday, Mackenzi had open house at her school.  I just love open house.  Her classroom looked amazing.  Her teachers did a wonderful job decorating the room and the kids worked so hard on their writing and crafts.  Seeing her classroom made me miss teaching, although I do love staying home!!  The theme was the rain forest.  Mackenzi learned so much and will randomly tell you facts about the rain forest and the animals that live there.  I'll let the pictures speak for themselves...

A real red eyed tree frog

 Wasn't that awesome??
I can't believe that she only has 4 more days of preschool!!!
I am so happy with the preschool and teachers that Mackenzi has had the past two years.  I can't believe after summer she will be a big Kindergartner.  This year in preschool has really prepared her for Kinder.  I couldn't be more proud of our big girl!!

Hurley's Birthday

Last week, Hurley turned four years old.  So what did we do??  Had some birthday cake, of course.  We used left over frosting to frost a bone for the birthday girl!
 She LOVED it!!
We love any excuse to eat cake, even in our p.j.s!!
Happy 4th Birthday Hurley!!
You are sure a special pup.
We love you!!

From raggmuffins...
 To STUDMUFFINS!!!
We had a great weekend, but I think this change was my highlight!!  Oh how I love their hair short and spikey.  Matt loves it long.  He finally got tired of hearing me nag, and we got their hair cut.  I am in love!  They're so handsome, dont'cha think???

Roxy

A couple of weeks ago, Matt's family lost a special member of their family, their dog Roxy.  Roxy was nine and a half years old.  When Matt and I started dating, she was just a pup, a little over a year old.  She was such a good dog.  Seriously.  She was playful, content, cuddly, and obedient.  My whole life, my family always had Cocker Spaniels, Roxy turned me over to loving big dogs...not just any big dogs, Labs.  Matt and I loved her...lots.  Her last few months of life, she developed some tumors that the vet thought were cancer.  They removed one at first but it came back very aggressively.  She passed away in her sleep a few weeks ago.  It was hard for Matt's whole family.  Matt took it really hard.  We were nervous of how to tell Mackenzi.  But she took it (very) well.  She talks about Roxy a lot, although she isn't sad.  She always says, "She's in heaven, like a frisky little pup.  There are LOTS of flowers, balls, and rocks there".{Side note, Roxy loved fetching rocks at the river.}  She draws pictures and in the sky she draws Roxy in Heaven.  At Easter time, she drew Roxy under three crosses, right by Jesus.    Here are a few pictures of Roxy.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Swimsuits and Water

There's something about warm weather that I love.  When the temperature hits close to the 80's (or higher), I just want to be outside.  Last week we had a H.O.T. week.  We played outside, a lot.  One evening, while waiting for Daddy to come home, we played in the front yard.  The hose, the sprinklers, buckets, and FUN.

 {The Queen.  She even wanted me to walk behind her and hold her cape, so I did.}
I don't care what season it is. As long as the sunshine is hot enough to play in the water, it's my favorite!!
